    Thanks for all the details and photos. They’re very helpful. It’s also good to know you can use tissue paper instead of fabric or Tyvek for the sides. I’m fresh out of Tyvek…

    I intend to make myself a light tent in order to photograph hats with my little Nikon Coolpix. Can you advise me on how much clearance around the object a light tent should have?

    I don’t know how much clearance you need exactly. I think you just need to give enough space on the sides so that as your plane recedes to the back, the sides will still be out of your frame. My tent is almost a cube, with width (side to side) 24″, and depth (front to back) 20″, and that seems to be sufficient for your hats, though sometimes the sides might show. Any smaller will not work as well as you might have to Photoshop the edges. Good luck!
